Monthly Film Screening: Lamentation at the Liesbeek
Join us for a special screening of Lamentation at the Liesbeek, a powerful short documentary that journeys from the U.S.–Mexico border to South Africa’s Liesbeek River. Through evocative sound and ritual, the film reclaims sacred ground—challenging the illusion of separation and inviting us to listen more deeply: to place, to history, and to one another.
This 28-minute documentary will be followed by a Q&A session with the film’s directors, offering insight into the creative process and the themes explored in the film.
Synopsis
At Cape Town’s sacred Liesbeek River, Indigenous and local artists gather in a collective lament—blending performance, ritual, and testimony in a poetic act of resistance against exploitation and erasure. Through voice and movement, they transform grief into strength, honouring the land and the ancestors who protect it.
