Activists Without Borders exists to support human and environmental rights through education, storytelling, and non-violent action. Our strategy is grounded in the belief that lasting change is only possible when people are well-informed, empowered, and equipped to act ethically, safely, and responsibly. We focus on fostering understanding, critical thinking, and practical skills that allow individuals and communities to engage meaningfully with issues such as human rights violations, climate change, and environmental degradation.
We do not organise street protests or encourage actions that could place individuals or communities at legal or personal risk. Instead, our approach prioritises education, dialogue, and lawful engagement, ensuring that people can participate in positive change without fear of harm or reprisal. At the same time, we support peaceful public demonstrations that are conducted lawfully, with the appropriate permissions, and in a responsible, organised manner – recognising that such events can be an important way to raise awareness and show solidarity, when done safely.
Through this strategy, we aim to build knowledge, strengthen networks, and cultivate solidarity among activists, learners, and communities worldwide. Our goal is to create spaces where people can take informed, ethical action, collaborate across borders, and contribute to a more just, sustainable, and equitable world – all without resorting to violence or putting themselves or others at risk.

Education as the Foundation for Change
Education is at the heart of everything we do. Through films, learning programmes, publications, and the Activists Without Borders Academy, we help people understand complex injustices – from human rights violations to climate and environmental harm – in accessible, accurate, and responsible ways.
By strengthening understanding, we enable individuals and communities to engage thoughtfully, critically, and constructively with global issues.
Promoting Non-Violent and Ethical Action
AWB is firmly committed to non-violent action. We support advocacy approaches that respect human life, the rule of law, and community safety.
We do not encourage armed struggle, property destruction, intimidation, or illegal activities. Instead, we guide people towards forms of engagement that are ethical, lawful, and sustainable – ensuring they can take action without placing themselves or others in danger.
Storytelling to Build Awareness and Solidarity
We believe stories have the power to cross borders, challenge dominant narratives, and inspire empathy. Through the Activists Without Borders Film Festival and our year-round storytelling work, we amplify voices that are often excluded from mainstream media.
Our strategy prioritises storytelling as a tool for awareness, dialogue, and connection – not spectacle or confrontation.
Supporting Activists Without Exposing Them to Harm
Inspired by organisations such as Front Line Defenders, AWB recognises the risks faced by activists worldwide. Our work is designed to reduce harm, not increase it.
We prioritise:
